The Cistercian Abbey Rotem (also: Rothem , Mariëndal or Marienrode ) was 1237-1797 a monastery of Cistercian nuns in Halen , Limburg , Belgium .

history

The Mariëndaal ("Mariental") nunnery on the left bank of the Velp was moved to its final location in Halen in 1237 by the Cistercians and in 1242. In 1797 the French Revolution led to the dissolution and complete dismantling of the monastery buildings. Only the attached manor (and the mill) in the "Rotemstraat" in Halen remained.
