Aschersleben Cistercian Convent

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Cistercian convent Aschersleben was a convent of the Cistercian women in Aschersleben in Saxony-Anhalt from 1263 to 1553 .

history

The Askanier founded in 1266 in Liebeswahn (then suburb of Aschersleben, see the street name Liebeswahn shear plan) the Cistercian monastery of St. Mary's, the (Latin as "Gray monastery" Ascharia ) was known. According to other sources, the founding took place as early as 1250, but this may mean a sister collection, as it often preceded formal foundations. The monastery was destroyed in 1525, officially dissolved in 1553 and finally demolished in 1561. Today only the street name Klosterhof reminds of the former monastery. The monument at Klosterhof 5 seems to be a remnant from the monastery era.
