Yvetot Cistercian Convent

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Cistercian convent of Yvetot was a priory of the Cistercian women in Yvetot , Seine-Maritime department in France , from 1657 to 1780 .

history

The Lords of Yvetot founded the Saint-Hyacinthe priory in 1657 (after the 3rd century martyr Hyacinthus), which was settled by the Cistercian abbey of Bival (first superior: Judith Françoise Soyer, 1618–1709). In 1711 the new monastery church was consecrated to the Virgin Mary. In 1780 the priory was dissolved by the Archbishop of Rouen . In Yvetot, the street name Rue du Couvent is reminiscent of the monastery, of which a stately building is left (house number 7). Other buildings that were used as a prison until 1958 have now been replaced by the Le Prieuré residential building (number 9).
