Dundee Customs Warehouse

The Dundee bonded warehouse is a former bonded warehouse in the Scottish city of Dundee in the council area of the same name . In 1989 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

The building was erected in 1877. Dundee-based architect David Cunningham was responsible for the design . The ground storage was used mixed, as a general warehouse and as a granary. It is possible that it was initially used as a normal harbor warehouse and only later converted into a bonded warehouse. In addition to the storage facilities in the ports of Greenock , Glasgow and Edinburgh , the bonded warehouse in Dundee is the only remaining harbor floor storage facility in Scotland.

description

The five-story bonded warehouse is on the northeast corner of Victoria Dock . Its longer north and south facades are five axes wide. On the ground floor there are central entrance doors with elliptical arches with keystones . With the exception of the portals, the facades on the ground floor are unadorned. The windows on the upper floors, coupled to triplets, on axes 1, 3 and 5 are embedded in round-arched recesses.

A six-story tower with a square floor plan rises in the center of the west gable. Tower clocks are embedded in the top section of the tower. The tower closes flat with a stone balustrade . The design of the east facade suggests possible plans to expand the harbor basin. The final gable roof is covered with slate.
