Zoltán Göncz

Zoltán Göncz [ ˈzoltaːn ˈɡønts ] (born July 23, 1958 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian composer and musicologist.

Zoltán Göncz studied at the Franz Liszt Music Academy and received his diploma in 1980. From 1983 to 1997 he was the music editor of the National Philharmonic, from 1997 to 2008 he was the editor-in-chief of the music ensembles of the Hungarian Radio . Since 2008 he has been working at the John Wesley Theological College .

In his compositions he often uses archaic forms ( canon , passacaglia ) and complex, speculative structures.

Awards

Göncz was awarded the Artisjus Prize in 1994 and 2006 . In 2009 he was awarded the Silver Cross of Merit of the Hungarian Republic for his achievements in international Bach research and for his book Bach testamentuma .
