Zoltán Várkonyi
Zoltán Várkonyi (born May 13, 1912 in Budapest , Austria-Hungary , † April 19, 1979 there ) was a Hungarian film director , screenwriter , university lecturer and actor .
Life
Várkonyi was one of the most important figures in Hungarian cultural life in the 20th century. From 1949 he taught at the Budapest Theater and Film Academy (Színművészeti Akadémia), which he also led from 1972. His students included Sándor Pécsi , Vera Sennyei and Zoltán Latinovits . Várkonyi was actively involved in building up Hungarian television. He worked for a long time at the Vígszínház in Budapest as a theater director and director. He was twice awarded the Kossuth Prize .
