Zoltán Latinovits
Zoltán Latinovits (born September 9, 1931 in Budapest , † June 4, 1976 in Balatonszemes ) was a Hungarian stage and film actor.
Latinovits appeared as an extra at the theater in Debrecen , later also in Miskolc and from 1962 in Budapest at the Comedy Theater and the Thalia Theater . He made his film debut in 1959 in Imre Fehérs Gyalog a mennyorszagba , in which he played a scientist in a love triangle . He took on other leading roles as theologian Gábor Csiky in Zoltán Várkonyi's Fotó Háber (1963), as a sculptor in György Palásthy's Sok hüség semmiért (1966) and as Juliet's lover Vili in Frigyes Mamcserov's Alfa-Rómeó és Júlia (1968). For his portrayal of the writer in György Révész ' Utazás a koponyám körül - a literary film adaptation based on Frigyes Karinthy - he received an award as best actor at the San Sebastian Film Festival in 1970 . Latinovits also worked several times with the director Zoltán Fábri , for example in Isten hozta, őrnagy úr (1969), 141 perc a befejezetlen mondatból (1974) and Az ötödik (1976).
From the 1960s onwards, Latinovits lived with the actress Éva Ruttkai , with whom he had a fruitful professional collaboration.
Latinovits died on June 4, 1976 at a level crossing near Lake Balaton under unexplained circumstances. While some reports speak of suicide , there is also evidence of an accident. Probably also because of the similarities with the suicide of the poet Attila József , who threw himself in front of a train in the same area in 1937, the death of the "actor king" sparked an enormous echo. Several well-known poets such as Gyula Illyés bid farewell to Latinovits in poems.
In 1990 he was posthumously awarded the Kossuth Prize .
