The Zoran Corporation was founded in 1983 by Levy Gerzberg and focused on the development of digital signal processing . The company currently manufactures microchips that are used in DVD players , recorders , HDTV televisions and digital cameras , among other things .
The company is based in Silicon Valley , Haifa, Israel and Asia.
The name Zoran is derived from the Hebrew word for silicon .
In 1985, due to the resemblance of Zoran and Max Zorin , the villain played by Christopher Walken , in the opening credits of the James Bond film In the Face of Death , a note had to be displayed that there is no connection between Zoran and the fictional company of Max Zorin which also makes microchips.

In 2003 Zoran took over the hardware manufacturer Oak Technology . In 2011 Zoran was taken over by the British CSR plc .
