To the island of Helgoland

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

On the island of Helgoland there was a restaurant and excursion restaurant in the Kassel district of Bettenhausen . BC Sport Kassel was founded in the restaurant and the predecessor clubs of KSV Hessen Kassel merged.

Founding club Kassel clubs

The half-timbered building stood on the now defunct island between Mühlgraben and Losse . At the end of the 19th century, the Kassel restaurateur Jacob Zusatz unsuccessfully applied for a bar license for a restaurant. After rescuing a drowning child from a flood in the Loss, he received his longed-for concession out of recognition. His daughter Lina Leinweber and her husband Albert Leinweber took over the popular restaurant.

On April 15, 1894, high school students founded the 1st Cassel Ball Game Club Sport in the Zur Insel Helgoland restaurant . BC Sport is the oldest still existing soccer club in the city of Kassel.

In the restaurant in 1895 the merger of the sports clubs FC Hassia Kassel and FC Union Kassel to form the Casseler FV 95 was decided. The Casseler FV was the predecessor of the SV Kurhessen Kassel , which was re-established as KSV Hessen Kassel after 1947.

Destruction and rebuilding

The restaurant was destroyed on October 3, 1942 in a major attack by British bombers on Kassel. After the air raid on Kassel on October 22, 1943 , the innkeeper couple Lina and Albert Leinweber, who were quartered in Kassel Moltkestrasse, were found dead from an air raid shelter .

The restaurant Zur Insel Helgoland was rebuilt after 1945 and operated on Inselweg 2 until 1976. The restaurant gave way to a beverage wholesale market and can only be seen on postcards , engravings and paintings .
