Zvonimir Brudnjak

Zvonimir Brudnjak (born January 16, 1920 in Zagreb , † July 6, 2006 ) was a Yugoslav virologist .

Life

Zvonimir Brudnjak graduated from the University of Zagreb in 1945 with a degree in veterinary medicine . There he received his doctorate in 1949 and his habilitation in 1958 with a thesis on Newcastle disease . In 1960 he founded the Virology Laboratory at the Institute for Infectious Diseases of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Zagreb, which he then headed.

In 1963 Brudnjak switched to human medicine and became an associate professor at the Medical Faculty of the University of Zagreb and head of the Virology Department at the Institute for Public Health of the Medical Faculty ( Škola narodnog zdravlja " Andrija Štampar " ). In 1970 he became a full professor and in 1974 head of this institute. He retired in 1986.

Zvonimir Brudnjak made significant contributions to virus filtration and virus tissue culture, which are a prerequisite for the development of vaccines .
