The twelve-spotted mushroom ladybird ( Vibidia duodecimguttata ) is a beetle from the ladybird family (Coccinellidae).
features
The beetles are three to four millimeters long. The body is oval in shape. Your entire body has a light brown base color on the top and bottom, only the compound eyes are black. The wing covers have a less broadly set off side edge. There are twelve whitish spots on each of the wings . On the neck plate is located on both outer sides each have a whitish spot. The light brown antennae are quite long and thicken slightly at the end.

distribution
The beetles are found in the Palearctic . In Europe the species is widespread, but rare. The beetles prefer clearings and edges of deciduous forests as their habitat , where they are often found on oaks ( Quercus ), trembling poplars ( Populus tremula ), ash trees ( Fraxinus ) and bird cherry ( Prunus avium ). Furthermore, the beetles often stay on various bushes such as dogwood ( Cornus ) and snowball ( Viburnum ). The beetles usually fly from April to September.
Way of life
The beetles usually sit on leaves, from which they eat powdery mildew - especially that caused by Phyllactinia suffulta and Sphaeroteca pannosa .
