Purpose Sunday

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

With purpose Sundays (also theme or motto Sunday ) is known since the 1970s in the Catholic dioceses of the German language area specific thematically oriented Sundays, some also with a dedicated collection are connected. Some Purpose Sundays are celebrated internationally, others only in certain countries or dioceses. In some church areas there are 20-30 such special Sundays. However , it is up to the celebrant to decide whether he wants to celebrate Holy Mass with the concerns or with the texts of the theme Sunday .

Purpose Sundays mostly deal with general concerns that do not arise directly from the Eucharistic meaning and the festive form of Holy Mass. The text offers prepared for the services on these occasions, possibly in connection with a bishop's word to be read out, do not always take into account the liturgical character of the Sunday on which they fall. Within the church, they are therefore often criticized by liturgical scholars as unliturgical.
