The special purpose association Natura Ill-Theel , based in the Marpinger district of Berschweiler, is an amalgamation of the municipalities of Eppelborn , Illingen , Lebach , Marpingen , Merchweiler , Tholey and the Naturland Foundation Saar . The Zweckverband has the task of managing the project sponsorship of the river margins program of the Ill and Theel .

Organs of the association

The association is presided over by a mayor of the participating municipalities, the chairmanship changes every two years. The mayor and a representative of the Naturland Foundation Saar have their seat in the association committee. The association's affairs are decided in the association assembly. This includes the mayors of the communities as well as an additional elected representative of the communities and a representative of the Naturland Foundation. Furthermore, there is an advisory committee in which representatives of the nature conservation authorities, the Naturland Foundation and representatives of the local nature conservation organizations have their seat.

aims

The riparian strip program covers an area of 125 km², the length of all water bodies in the association is 140 km. Up to 2004 the program had 17.5 million euros at its disposal, of which 75% was funded by the federal government, 15% by the state and 10% by the municipalities in the association. 100% of the costs for personnel and material resources are paid for by the municipalities.

The aims of the association are 1. the improvement of the water quality u. a. through the construction of new sewage treatment plants, 2. the restoration of the biological continuity of the waters u. a. Dismantling of weirs in the waters, 3. Preservation of a dynamic typical of waters, including u. a. to understand that dead wood is no longer removed from the water, 4. retention and rewetting and the like. a. by removing drainage in stream floodplains and, as a fifth and final goal, extensification and emaciation, etc. a. through grassland farming without fertilization.

The resettlement of the beaver in 1994 at the Ill in Illingen was a great success . Up to the year 2000 a total of 23 beavers had been resettled.
