Second new one

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Second New ( Turkish İkinci Yeni ) was one of the most important literary currents in modern Turkish poetry. This current began in 1956 as a counter-movement to the Garip , which was referred to as the “First New”, and to socialist realism in the 1940s. The most famous representatives of the current were among others Sezai Karakoç , Edip Cansever , Cemal Süreya , Turgut Uyar , Ece Ayhan and İlhan Berk .

Unlike Garip and the representatives of socialist realism, the poets of the Second Newcomers did not address social problems and refused to use simple language. Rather, they preferred apolitical issues such as the subconscious of the individual, loneliness, sexuality, death and suicide.

Stylistically, they changed the use of language under the influence of Dadaism . They preferred an abstract language and changed the structure of the language and the sentence structure.
