The Second Thai-Laotian Friendship Bridge ( Thaiสะพาน มิตรภาพ 2 ไทย - ลาว), (Laotian ຂົວ ມິດ ຕະ ພາບ ໄທ - ລາວ II) crosses the border river Mekong and connects the Mukdahan province in Thailand with the city of Savannakhet in Laos .
General
The road bridge , opened on January 9, 2007, is 1,600 meters long and 12 meters wide and has two lanes in right-hand traffic . The change from right-hand to left-hand traffic takes place on the Thai side, while this is the case with the First Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge (Nong Khai-Vientiane) on the Lao side.
Construction began on March 21, 2004 and was completed on December 19, 2006. The bridge was officially opened by Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on December 20, 2006 .
The construction costs amounted to 70 million US dollars and were mainly financed by a loan from a Japanese bank.
