In 1952 his son Werner Paul Roell became managing director. 1982 took over the Roell in 1854 Schaffhausen company, founded by Jacob Amsler-Laffon Amsler which the world's oldest supplier of measurement and control technology was. Roell-Amsler made a name for itself with its hydraulic testing machines at the Gottmadingen site in particular in the 1980s and 1990s . In August 2003 the company in Gottmadingen was shut down. Production was relocated to Zwick in Ulm.

In 1938, before the beginning of the Second World War, Franz Zwick Senior started building universal testing machines together with the designer Max Späth in Ulm-Einsingen on the site of an old button factory . After the end of the Second World War, the Zwick company developed into one of the leading manufacturers in this field.

In 1992, Zwick merged with the Roell Group to form the Zwick Roell Group. Ulm-Einsingen became the headquarters. After various other acquisitions, the group, which now consists of several companies, was transferred in 2001 to a stock corporation with a holding structure , with the operational tasks being predominantly carried out by Zwick GmbH & Co.
