Inter-claw sac on the left forefoot of a sheep

The intermediate bag mouth ( lat. Sinus interdigitalis ), also jaw sachets or interdigital element is a gland of the skin above the intermediate jaw gap at various ruminants . In sheep it occurs on all four feet, in chamois , deer and roe deer only on the hind feet.

The sebum and apocrine sweat glands open into the 3 to 4 mm wide glandular tube . Its secretion emerges from the mouth when it occurs and serves to mark the tread seal .

Claw worm

A purulent inflammation of the inter- claw sac is also known as a claw worm and leads to a supporting leg lameness and purulent discharge. If the course is severe, an abscess develops , which after a few days can break through into the gap between the claws and also spread to the claw .

The treatment is carried out through antiseptic measures, foot baths , astringent ointments and antibiotics .
