Zygmunt Pioch (born October 30, 1939 in Gowidlino , Poland ) is a Polish chess player . He is the international grandmaster in correspondence chess .

Correspondence chess

Pioch received the title International Grandmaster in 1991 for the following achievements:

  • 1970/72: Winner of the 14th championship of Poland
  • 1970/72: Gold medal in the 1st Polish Team Championship (12.5 out of 15 on board 1)
  • 1972/74: Winner of the 15th championship of Poland
  • 1972/74: Participation in the 8th Correspondence Chess Olympiad. With 8.5 out of 11 on bed 5, he met an IM norm
  • 1982/83: European team city tournament. On board 1 he fulfilled his second IM norm with 5.5 out of 8.
  • 1982/87: Participation in the 10th Correspondence Chess Olympiad (9.5 out of 11 on board 1)
  • 1985/91: Winner of the Simagin memorial tournament (11 out of 14)

In July 2002, his correspondence chess rating was 2,600.

Tournament chess

Pioch took part in the finals of the Polish championships of 1973 in Gdynia and 1974 in Zielona Góra. In the Polish team championship he played with WKS Flota Gdynia in 1968 in the finals and in 1972 and 1974 in the 1st Polish league, with the club GKS Gedania Gdańsk in 1994 and 1996 in the 1st Polish league.

He has been national champion since 1977 .

Private

Pioch is an officer by profession. He lives in Gdynia .
