Zygmunt Ziółkowski

Zygmunt Ziółkowski (born November 24, 1889 in Kolno , Podlaskie Voivodeship , † August 26, 1963 ) was a Polish politician and mayor .

Life

Ziółkowski was born and raised in a tax collector's family, his father was Bartlomiej Ziółkowski. He completed his studies in a teacher training college during the time of Congress Poland . He spent the years 1910 to 1914 in Chile , where he worked as a mechanic and as a cattle breeder.

In 1915 he joined the Polish Legions . From 1917 to 1918 he was interned in Szczypiorno . From 1919 to 1920 he fought in the Polish-Soviet War .

In the Second Polish Republic he was honored with a 35 hectare field in Ustyluh . From 1929 to 1931 Ziółkowski studied municipal politics and administration, whereupon he took over responsibility as Vogt in the Gmina Kamienica Żyrowiecka (1931-1932). He then worked as mayor, from 1932 to 1937 in Luninez and from 1937 to 1939 in Kobrin .

During the attack on Poland he fought in the group "Kobryn"; he was captured by the Germans and spent his captivity in officers' camps in Choszczno and Borne Sulinowo . After the Second World War he took over a large farm in Widzino in Pomerania. Ziółkowski was politically active in the Polish party Polskie Stronnictwo Ludowe (1945-1949). He died in 1963 and was buried in the Kobylnica cemetery.

Honors

Ziółkowski was honored with the Krzyż Waleczny and the Order Virtuti Militari for his participation in the Polish-Soviet war.
