Bernard Blair (born May 24, 1801 in Williamstown , Massachusetts , † May 7, 1880 in Salem , New York ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1841 and 1843 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Bernard Blair was born in Williamstown in the early 19th century. He attended public schools and completed his preparatory studies. In 1825 he graduated from Williams College , Williamstown. In the same year he moved to Salem, Washington County . Where he studied law . He was admitted to the bar in 1828 and then began practicing in Salem. He was also admitted to the New York Court of Chancery as a Counselor and Solicitor . Politically, he was a member of the Whig Party .

In the 1840 congressional elections for the 27th Congress , Blair was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the twelfth constituency of New York , where he succeeded David Abel Russell on March 4, 1841 . He retired from the after March 3, 1843 Congress of.

After his time at Congress he went back to his practice as a lawyer. He died on May 7, 1880 in Salem and was buried there in Evergreen Cemetery .
