John Quinn (politician)

John Quinn ( Irish Seán Ó Cuinn , born August 9, 1839 in County Tipperary , Ireland , † February 23, 1903 in New York City ) was an American politician . Between 1889 and 1891 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Quinn was born in County Tipperary during the Victorian Age . He attended Clonmel College in Tipperary . In 1866 he immigrated to the United States and settled in New York City. There he pursued real estate and construction businesses. He was president of the West Side Electric Light & Power Company and a founder and director of the Homestead Bank of New York . In 1882 he was a member of the New York State Assembly . Then he was a member of the Board of Aldermen between 1885 and 1887 . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party . He participated in the years 1884 and 1888 as a delegate to the Democratic National Conventions .

In the 1888 congressional elections for the 51st Congress , Quinn was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the eleventh constituency of New York , where he succeeded Truman A. Merriman on March 4, 1889 . He retired from the after March 3, 1891 Congress of.

He died on February 23, 1903 in New York City and was buried in Calvary Cemetery , Long Island City .
