Joseph Bouck

Joseph Bouck (born July 22, 1788 on Bouck's Island , New York , † March 30, 1858 in Middleburgh , New York) was an American politician . Between 1831 and 1833 he represented the state of New York in the US House of Representatives . Congressman Gabriel Bouck was his nephew.

Career

Joseph Bouck was born on Bouck's Island near Fultonham in Schoharie County about five years after the War of Independence . He attended village schools in his home district. He then worked in agriculture for many years until he moved to Middleburgh. In 1828 he worked as a road toll inspector ( turnpike roads ) in Schoharie County. Politically, he belonged to the Jacksonian faction. In the 1830 congressional election for the 22nd Congress , Bouck was in the twelfth constituency of New York in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DCelected, where he succeeded Peter J. Borst after March 4, 1831 . He retired from the after March 3, 1833 Congress of. After his time in Congress he lived again in Middleburgh, where he died on March 30, 1858. His body was buried in his son's grave site in Middleburgh Cemetery .
