The Caddo County is a county in the US state of Oklahoma . At the 2010 census , the county had 29,600 people and a population density of 8.9 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Anadarko , which was named after an Indian tribe.

The county is located in west central Oklahoma and has an area of ​​3,342 square kilometers, of which 31 square kilometers are water. It borders on the following counties:

history

Caddo County was formed in 1901 as the original Free Territory County. It was named after Caddo , a confederation of Indian peoples. The Indian word caddo means something like chief or chief . The county was settled by white settlers according to an official land lottery from August 1 to 6, 1901, after this was proclaimed by US Secretary of the Interior Ethan Allen Hitchcock on June 24, 1901. The first post office in this area was opened in 1873.

Fort Cobb was a Union Forces post until March 5, 1861 . After their departure, the Confederates occupied the post and a year later built Camp McIntosh near the Washita River , between Anadarko and Verden.

The Provine Service Station (2016) is one of eleven entries for the county in the NRHP.

Eleven structures and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of May 21, 2018).

According to the 2000 census , Caddo County had 30,150 people. 1,421 of these people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 10,957 households and 7,965 families. The median income for a household in the county is $ 27,347 , and the median income for a family is $ 32,118. Males had a median income of $ 26,373 versus $ 18,658 for females. The per capita income was $ 13,298. 16.7 percent of families and 21.7 percent of the population are below the poverty line.
