Campbell County is a county in the state of Virginia in the United States . At the 2000 census , the county had 51,078 people and a population density of 39 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Rustburg . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

According to the 2000 United States Census , Campbell County had 51,078 people in 20,639 households and 14,694 families. The population density was 39 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 83.24 percent white, 14.71 percent African American, 0.19 percent Native American, 0.62 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.33 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.90 percent were descended from two or more races.
