Page County is a county in the state of Virginia in the United States . In 2000 , the county had 23,177 residents and a population density of 29 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Luray .

Page County is located in northern Virginia, about 45 km to the west from West Virginia and has an area of 813 square kilometers, of which eight square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Warren County , Rappahannock County , Madison County , Greene County , Rockingham County, and Shenandoah County .

Page County had 23,177 people as of the 2000 census . 260 of them lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 9,305 households and 6,634 families. The population density was 29 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 96.26 percent white, 2.16 percent African American, 0.15 percent Native American, 0.24 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.48 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.68 percent were from two or more races. 1.08 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 9,305 households, 29.6 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 55.8 percent were married couples living together, 10.5 percent were single mothers, 28.7 percent were non-families, 24.4 percent were single households, and 11.1 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.46 and the average family size was 2.91 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 23.0 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 7.7 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 28.3 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 25.3 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 15.7 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 96.2 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were 94.4 men statistically.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 33,359 , and the median income for a family is $ 39,005. Males had a median income of $ 27,199 versus $ 19,821 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,321. 10.1 percent of families and 12.5 percent of the population were below the poverty line. Of these, 16.0 percent were children or young people under the age of 18 and 14.7 percent were people over 65 years of age.
