Henrico County is a county in the state of Virginia in the United States . At the 2010 census , the county had 306,935 people and a population density of 425 people per square kilometer.
history
In 1611 the English colonialist Thomas Dale founded the Citie of Henricus on an island in James . This island is now known as Farrar's Island . Henricus was named after Henry Frederick, Prince of Wales . Henricus was destroyed during the Jamestown massacre in 1622.
1634 was Henrico Shire on the orders of King Charles I founded. Between 1637 and 1642 the renaming of Termini shire took place in county . Since the founding of Richmond in 1842, parts of Henrico have been incorporated into the urban area of Richmond five times. Chesterfield County took over the Henricus area in 1922.
Richmond wanted to incorporate Henrico completely in 1961, but 61 percent of Henrico's residents voted against it. In 1965 there was a lawsuit with Richmond about 145 square miles of Henricos. This was rejected by the court.
During the American Civil War (1861–1865), Henrico Country was the site of numerous battles related to the Peninsula Campaign :

- Battle of White Oak Swamp,
- Battle of Glendale
- Battle of Malvern Hill .
The Confederate General JEB Stuart was in Henrico County during the Battle of Yellow Tavern mortally wounded.

Henrico County is located in the Richmond-Petersburg region of eastern Virginia. The county seat is the city of Richmond , which does not belong to the county. The county has an area of 634 square kilometers, of which 17 square kilometers are water.

After the census in 2000 262 300 people lived in Henrico County. 3,812 of these people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 108,121 households and 69,846 families. The population density was 425 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 68.91 percent white, 24.71 percent African American, 0.35 percent Native American, 3.60 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.98 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.42 percent were from two or more races. 2.27 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 108,121 households, 31.9 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 48.3 percent were married couples living together, 13.1 percent were single mothers, 35.4 percent were non-families, 28.9 percent were single households and 8.5 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 2.97 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 24.7 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 7.8 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 32.9 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 22.2 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 12.4 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 88.2 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were 83.6 men statistically.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 49,185 , and the median income for a family is $ 59,298. Males had a median income of $ 40,203 versus $ 29,795 for females. The per capita income was $ 26,410. 4.5 percent of families and 6.2 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. This included 8.1 percent of children and adolescents under 18 years of age and 4.5 percent of residents aged 65 and over.

Henrico County has no self-governing communities like Towns . The Virginia Statute Law does not allow for start-ups because the county has a population density of over 200 people per square mile . The United States Census Bureau lists 13 localities as census-designated places for statistical purposes .
