The Deichbrand ( proper spelling : DEICHBRAND ) is an annual music festival in or in the vicinity of Cuxhaven . In 2009 the open-air festival had more than 10,000 visitors, in 2011 it was sold out for the first time with almost 20,000 tickets sold. In 2012 and 2013 the festival was also packed with 25,000 and 35,000 visitors, respectively. In 2014, 40,000 fans then celebrated the big anniversary festival. In 2016 the Deichbrand Festival reached a new visitor record with 50,000 visitors.

concept

In 2005, the Deichbrand Festival took place for the first time. The festival, which originally ran over two days, was extended to three event days for the fourth time in 2008 in order to underpin the festival character. The nationally successful festival brought two commercially very successful top acts to the North Sea coast for the first time in the fifth year with Mando Diao and The Streets . Financing is provided through sponsorship of several national companies, but also through the financial support of several local companies. Musicians from the fields of metal , emo and rock , but also hip-hop and pop are represented at the event . There are four stages, the Fire Stage , the Water Stage , the Palace Tent and the Manege in the Green Circus. The concept of the alternately played open-air stages, praised by the audience and artists, ensures that nobody misses one of the many highlights. In addition, a parallel program with other shows and a three-day poetry slam is running in the palace tent. By expanding the community area in the Green Camp and opening it up to all festival visitors, the Deichbrand Festival has had a new, fourth stage in the Green Circus since 2015.

Venues

In 2005, the first dike fire was organized in Fort Kugelbake , which is located in the immediate vicinity of the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea . About 500 visitors came on the two days. Due to the success and the associated increased number of visitors, it was decided in the following year to use a larger area next to the wind farm on the dike in Altenbruch as the venue for the festival. In 2008 the festival site, also known as Rock City , was relocated to Neufelder Strasse at the harbor. Since the move was to create space for more than 15,000 spectators, the 10,000 visitor mark was exceeded for the first time this year. Since the fifth edition in 2009, the festival has been taking place at the Cuxhaven / Nordholz sea airport near the village of Wanhöden .

Line ups

2005

The first Deichbrand Festival took place on September 2nd and 3rd, 2005 at Fort Kugelbake in Cuxhaven . Among others, the following bands played: Mob Rules , Regicide , Die Familie, Milestones, Die Apokalyptischen Reiter , The Jinxs

2006

The festival took place again on August 18 and 19, 2006 - this time due to the background noise on the Grodener Deich, between the fishing port of Cuxhaven and an offshore test field. For the first time, two stages were set up in order to shorten the transition times between setting up and dismantling the individual bands. The line up was as follows:

  • A Chinese restaurant
  • The family
  • Experience X
  • Finisterre
  • From Behind

2007

The third festival took place on August 24th and 25th, 2007. Again, the festival site, known as Rock City, had to be relocated - this time because the site of the previous year has now been prepared for development. The distance, however, was only a few hundred meters. An area was made available to the festival, which was then to be built on with another large wind farm. The previous leveling of the ground in the course of construction preparation resulted in an ideal festival site - the dry, hot weather on the event weekend supported this effect. In the meantime, the festival had gained notoriety far beyond the country's borders, which was reflected in the band list:

  • Tiny-Y-Son
  • Kill fill
  • Mad Lane
  • Crack'n Up's
  • Presence of at least

Debuts

Revolving Door entered the stage as the winner of the newcomer contest on mp3.de , Odeville as the winner of the Local Heroes contest 2007.

organization

The Deichbrand was originally founded by an initiative of young people from Cuxhaven to create an attraction for young people. The aim was to put an end to the range of events for young people in the Cuxhaven district, which was felt to be inadequate. According to the initiators, the festival should develop into a nationwide event in the medium term. Today Deichbrand is organized by ESK Events & Promotion GmbH , which was founded in 2010 from ES Events GbR . This is supported by a so-called "core team" that works on a voluntary basis .

Since 2018 there has been a 2,100 square meter Aldi on the dike on the festival site for the five days .

The medical guard service has been taken over by Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe since 2014 . In 2019, around 700 volunteers registered 3,000 patient contacts at eight accident relief centers.
