Edward Lawrence "Larry" Winn Jr. (born August 22, 1919 in Kansas City , Missouri , † December 31, 2017 in Prairie Village , Kansas ) was an American politician . Between 1967 and 1985 he represented the third constituency of the state of Kansas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Larry Winn attended public schools in Kansas City and then studied until 1941 at the University of Kansas at Lawrence . He then worked for two years for a radio station in his hometown and also for two years for the aircraft manufacturer North American Aviation . He then worked in the construction industry. Between 1950 and 1966 he was Vice President of Winn-Rau Corp. Winn was director of the National Association of Homebuilders for 14 years ; in Kansas he was president of that association.

Politically, Winn became a member of the Republican Party . In the 1966 congressional elections, he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third district of Kansas , where he succeeded Robert Fred Ellsworth on January 3, 1967 . Since he was confirmed in his mandate in the following eight elections, he was able to complete nine consecutive terms in Congress by January 3, 1985 . During this time the first moon landing and the Watergate affair took place . In 1984 he renounced another candidacy.

Larry Winn has held no other high political office after serving in Congress. Most recently he lived very old in Prairie Village .
