Horace Ladd Moore

Horace Ladd Moore (born February 25, 1837 in Mantua , Portage County , Ohio , † May 1, 1914 in Lawrence , Kansas ) was an American politician . Between 1894 and 1895 he represented the second constituency of the state of Kansas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Horace Moore attended his homeland public schools and the Western Reserve Eclectic Institute in Hiram . Then he studied law. A month after he was admitted to the bar, he joined the Union Army during the Civil War . There he rose to lieutenant colonel until the end of the war . He served first in an infantry unit and later in the Kansas cavalry . After the war he took part in some Indian campaigns from 1867 to 1868. In 1886 he was a chamberlain in Douglas County , Kansas. After that, Moore worked as a lawyer. Between 1886 and 1892 he was in Trinidad ( Colorado worked) in retail.

Politically, Moore was a member of the Democratic Party . In the congressional election of 1892 he was defeated by the Republican incumbent Edward H. Funston . But Moore appealed against the election result. After this had been granted, he was able to take over Funston's mandate in Congress on August 2, 1894 . But since he was not confirmed in the regular congressional elections of 1894, he only remained in Congress until March 3, 1895.

After his tenure in Congress ended, Moore got into banking. He became vice president of the National Bank in Lawrence. He held this post until his death in 1914.
