Nelson B. McCormick

Nelson B. McCormick (born November 20, 1847 in Waynesburg , Green County , Pennsylvania , †  April 10, 1914 in Phillipsburg , Kansas ) was an American politician . Between 1897 and 1899 he represented the sixth constituency of the state of Kansas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Nelson McCormick attended public schools in his home country. In 1867 he moved to Marion County , Iowa . There he ran a farm and raised cattle. In 1877 he moved to Phillips County , Kansas. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1882, McCormick began working in his new profession in Phillipsburg.

Politically, McCormick was a member of the populist party that emerged from the farmers' movement . Between 1886 and 1888 he was deputy and from 1890 to 1894 actual district attorney in Phillips County. In the congressional elections of 1896 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the sixth district of Kansas . There he came on March 4, 1897 to the successor of William Baker , who had no longer run. Since he was defeated by the Republican William A. Reeder in the elections of 1898 , he was only able to complete one term in Congress until March 3, 1899 , which was determined by the events of the Spanish-American War .

After his tenure in Congress, McCormick returned to working as a lawyer in Phillipsburg. Politically, he converted to the Democratic Party . In 1904 and 1908 he was a delegate at their party congresses in Kansas. From 1910 until his death in 1914, he served once again as District Attorney in Phillips County.
