Melling Sportscars was a British manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Alwyn Melling and his wife Margaret Rose Melling founded the company on November 25, 2005. The company was based in Rochdale . Alwyn became director and Margaret became secretary. They made automobiles that were marketed as Melling . On February 17, 2009 the company was dissolved.

Production ran from 2007 to 2008 or from 2006 to supposedly 2010, depending on the source.

Margaret Melling died on July 22, 2009. After that there were plans to continue production. There is a report from March 2010 about plans for a plant in Portugal .

In 2011 Melling founded Melling Consultancy Design together with Phil Egginton and Beverley Ellison . However, another source states that this company existed from March 8, 2002 to December 7, 2004.

The connection to Melling Sportscars from Edina, Minnesota in the USA is unclear. This company existed from August 30, 2004 to August 2, 2013.

Hellcat

The Hellcat was introduced in February 2007. With its specified speed of 443 km / h, it should replace the SSC Aero as the fastest vehicle approved for the road. It has a V10 engine with four turbochargers drawing from the 5990  cc 895  kW / 1217  hp at 7200 min -1 . The maximum torque is 1193 Nm at 5400 min -1 . The power is distributed over the rear axle.

The car can sprint from 0-100 km / h in around 3.2 seconds, and the top speed is around 440 km / h. The £ 185,000 price does not include a radio or heater.

griffon

The Griffon is a two-seater sports car based on the TVR Griffith . Production started in January 2008. The car has a 4.7 liter engine that develops 350 kW (480 hp). The empty weight is approx. 1120 kg. The maximum speed stated by the manufacturer is 288 km / h (180 mph). The unit is priced at £ 50,000.

Wildcat

In January 2017, the auction house auctioned Coys a vehicle of 2008 for 22,375 dollars . It is referred to as the prototype of the Melling Wildcat , which the manufacturer did not sell. A total of seven vehicles of this model were built.
