Mohsin Charania (born February 27, 1985 in Guelph , Ontario , Canada ) is a professional American poker player . He won a bracelet at the World Series of Poker , twice the Main Event of the World Poker Tour and once the Main Event of the European Poker Tour , making him one of nine poker players who have completed the so-called Triple Crown .

Personal

Charania moved to Chicago with his Shiite family before his first birthday . There he grew up in simple circumstances. After graduating from school, he studied finance at the University of Illinois . Charania has a photographic memory . He lives in Des Plaines .

Poker career

Charania's first encounter with poker was at a friend's house with whom he was watching the World Series of Poker on ESPN sports network . He started playing cash games with friends for small stakes. After a short time, Charania visited casinos in the area on weekends to play with higher limits. At age 21, traveled Charania first time in Las Vegas , where he held a bankroll from around 200,000 US dollars built. In June 2009 he was successful for the first time at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and reached the money ranks in three tournaments of the No Limit Hold'em variant . At the end of April 2012, Charania won the main event of the European Poker Tour (EPT) in Monte-Carlo with a prize money of 1.35 million euros . In October 2013 he secured his first WPT title in Paris as well as almost 330,000 euros in prize money. In mid-December 2014, Charania won another WPT Main Event and received a bonus of around 1.2 million US dollars for winning the Five Diamond World Poker Classic . At the 2017 WSOP , he won a No Limit Hold'em tournament , securing a bracelet and more than $ 350,000 in prize money. With his win, Charania became the sixth player to secure tournament titles in all three major tournament series WSOP, WPT and EPT. This feat is known as the Triple Crown and has now been achieved by eight poker players.

In total, Charania has earned more than $ 6 million in poker in live tournaments.
