Jason Mark Mercier (born November 12, 1986 in Port Charlotte , Florida ) is a professional American poker player .

Mercier has earned over $ 19.5 million in live poker tournaments . He is a five-time bracelet winner from the World Series of Poker , where he was named Player of the Year in 2016. At the European Poker Tour he won the Main Event in Sanremo in April 2008 and the High Roller in London in October 2008 .

The Bluff Magazine voted him the best player of the year 2009. The sports broadcaster ESPN ranked the American in their poker rankings at number one for a long time. From May to September 2013, Mercier was at the top of the poker world rankings for 17 weeks in a row . In total, Mercier held the top position for 63 weeks , most recently in September 2015. Only Alex Foxen stayed in first place longer. As part of the 50th edition of the World Series of Poker , Mercier was named one of the 50 best players in poker history in June 2019 .

Personal

Mercier is from Davie in the US state of Florida . During his school days he played baseball , soccer and basketball . He received a scholarship from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton , which he lost because he was more concerned with online poker than his studies. Mercier moved to Broward Community College in Fort Lauderdale , where he worked as a substitute teacher and coached children's teams in soccer and basketball.

In July 2016, Mercier got engaged to poker player Natasha Barbour. The couple married in Florida in late November 2016 and had a son in October 2017. The family lives in Fort Lauderdale.

Mercier joined poker in 2003 as a result of the moneymaker boom .

Mercier was a member of Team PokerStars under the nickname JasonMercier until the end of 2017 . He played as treysfull21 on the Full Tilt Poker platform . In total, between April 2008 and May 2017 , Mercier earned more than 2.2 million US dollars in prize money with online tournament poker .

In April 2008 he won the main event of the European Poker Tour (EPT) in Sanremo and received a prize of 869,000 euros . In June 2008 , Mercier was successful for the first time at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and came in the money in three tournaments of the No Limit Hold'em variant .
