David Phillip "Phil" Roe (born July 21, 1945 in Clarksville , Tennessee ) is an American politician . Since 2009 he has represented the state of Tennessee in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Phil Roe attended Austin Peay State University in his hometown of Clarksville until 1967 . He then studied medicine at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville until 1970 . In 1973 and 1974 he served in the US Army , where he made it to major. After that he worked as a doctor. Politically, Roe joined the Republican Party . Between 2003 and 2008 he was a member of Johnson City City Council . From 2003 to 2007 he was also deputy mayor there before he was elected mayor himself in 2007. He held this office until 2009.

In the 2008 congressional election , Roe was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the first constituency of Tennessee , where he succeeded David Davis on January 3, 2009 . Since he was confirmed with 81% of the vote in the 2010 elections and has also won all subsequent elections, he can still exercise his mandate in Congress today. Its most recent legislative term runs until January 3, 2019. Phil Roe is or was a member of the Agriculture Committee , the Education and Labor Committee and the Veterans Committee, as well as four sub-committees. He is also a member of several Congressional Caucuses , including the Tea Party Caucus , which is closely related to the Tea Party movement . Roe is also a member of the Republican Study Committee .

Phil Roe has three children with his wife Pam.
