Series A 1971/72

The Serie A 1972/73 was the 41st season in the top Italian football -Spielklasse of Lords. It began on September 24, 1972 and ended on May 20, 1973. Ternana Calcio , Lazio Rome and SSC Palermo from Serie B came as promoters .

Juventus Turin won the championship for the second time in a row. By winning the championship, Juventus was allowed to take part in the 1973/74 European Cup. Lazio Rome, ACF Fiorentina , Inter Milan and AC Turin qualified for the UEFA Cup . The runner-up AC Milan qualified as the winner of the Coppa Italia for the European Cup Winners' Cup 1973/74 . Atalanta Bergamo , Palermo and Terni had to relegate to Serie B.

The 1972/73 season went down in history as the lowest-scoring season in Serie A history: never before and never again should it be so few goals per game (1.87 on average per game). Ironically, this season also saw the highest-scoring game in Serie A history - the 9-3 between AC Milan and Atalanta Bergamo .
