Series A 1989/90

The Serie A 1990/91 was the 59th time in the highest Italian football -Spielklasse of Lords. It began on September 9, 1990 and ended on May 26, 1991 with the handover of the Scudetto, the Italian championship trophy, to Sampdoria Genoa . Inter Milan , Genoa 1893 , Torino Calcio and AC Parma qualified for the UEFA Cup . In addition to the novice AC Pisa also had US Lecce , AC Cesena and FC Bologna the course in the series B compete.

Season course

Defending champion SSC Napoli started poorly and had only eight points after ten match days, and with 14th place was only one place ahead of the relegation ranks. Up to the 17th matchday only 15 points and 13th place could be booked. Last year with Diego Maradona , he ended up with a disappointing eighth place.

At the end of the series, Inter, Milan, Juventus, Sampdoria and Parma had positioned themselves promisingly. Only two points were between the first and fifth. On matchday 21, Sampdoria took over the championship lead in front of the two Milanese clubs Inter and AC after beating Juventus Turin 1-0. Two weeks later, the gap between these three teams was still just one point.

On matchday 31 there was a clash between the second and first. Sampdoria won 2-0 at Inter Milan. When AC Milan lost 2-1 in Bari on the penultimate match day, the first championship title was perfect.

The final four relegated from Lecce, Pisa, Cesena and Bologna were involved in the relegation battle early on. At the season finale, the also relegation-threatened teams from US Cagliari and AS Bari met. A draw was enough for both of them to be safely saved. And so the game ended 1: 1.

A remarkable record was set on matchday 12 in the match between AC Parma and FC Bologna. The guest player Giuseppe Lorenzo was sent off after just ten seconds.
