Waldbrunn is about twelve kilometers west of Würzburg . There is only the district Waldbrunn. It borders on Eisingen , Waldbüttelbrunn and the community-free area " Irtenberger Wald ".

Surname

etymology

The name Waldbrunn consists of the Old High German words wallen and brunno . They mean “gush” and “spring”. The place was therefore built on a bubbling spring. But ahd. Walt (forest) can also be used as a determinant . In this case you would have to the failure of the Dentals t accept because of Mehrkonsonanz.

history

The name of the settlement is first attested in 1164 as "whale fountain" in a document. As part of the Hochstift Würzburg ( Oberzell Monastery ), which belonged to the Franconian Empire , Waldbrunn was secularized in 1803 in favor of Bavaria, then in the Peace of Pressburg (1805) left to Archduke Ferdinand of Tuscany to form the Grand Duchy of Würzburg , with which it finally fell to Bavaria in 1814 . In 1818, as part of the Bavarian administrative reforms, the political municipality was created.

Ludwig Götzelmann (UBG) was mayor from 2002 to 2008, and in 2002 he succeeded Arnulf Wilhelm (Independent Citizens' Community). Hans Fiederling (Independent Citizens' Community) held this office from 2008 to 2020. Markus Haberstumpf (CSU) has been Mayor of Waldbrunn since May 1, 2020; with a turnout of 62.1%, he was elected without an opponent on March 15, 2020 with 90.6% of the vote.

Alliance Waldsassengau

Since November 20, 2014, Waldbrunn has been organized together with twelve other municipalities in the Alliance Waldsassengau . The association serves the intercommunal cooperation.

In 2017 there were 328 jobs subject to social security contributions in the municipality. Of the resident population, 1120 people were in employment that was subject to compulsory insurance. The number of out-commuters was 792 more than that of in-commuters. 25 residents were unemployed. In 2016 there were four farms.

There is a transport connection to the federal motorway 3 from Frankfurt to Würzburg via the Helmstadt junction and a direct bus connection to Würzburg. Waldbrunn is connected to several regional cycle paths: Romantic Road , Aalbachtal cycle path , Franconian Marienweg and Würzburg - Wertheim .
