History: Beginnings as WAMO-FM
Gestevisión Telecinco, S.A., (ES0152503035) is a Spanish television station, one of the leading Spanish private TV companies, created by Silvio Berlusconi. It started broadcasting on March 3 1990. It is the second private television in Spain after Antena 3.
This station actually first signed on at this frequency as WAMO-FM, the sister station of WAMO (AM) in Pittsburgh. For much of its existence, this station operated as an urban contemporary formatted station with its own independent programming and occasional simulcast of its AM sister.

The station first became what it is today in 1996, when it was then known as The Force, and operated at 106.7. The Force swapped signals with WAMO-FM, giving it better signal coverage. It was also one of six stations in the Clear Channel roster that dropped Howard Stern in February 2004 (however, Stern would show up on WRKZ later that year). Howard began airing on WXDX in November 1995. Since October 2006, WXDX has been the radio flagship station of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
It is owned by Mediaset Investimenti (50.1%), Vocento (13%) and free-float (36.9%). In 1997, the corporate identity was changed from Tele 5 to the current Telecinco, dropping Berlusconi's flower logo in the process.

Telecinco also snapped up the rights to the popular US crime drama franchise CSI, rotating the original CSI and spinoffs CSI: NY and CSI: Miami in its Monday primetime slot. The channel is usually ratings leader on Monday nights thanks to the franchise, having been known to schedule as many as five episodes from 10pm on Monday night.
* Alan Cox - The Alan Cox Radio Show. Alan Cox had a small following and was let go due to poor ratings in 2006. Cox hosted The Morning Fix at WKQX in Chicago from August 2006 until August 1, 2008 when the show was cancelled due to low ratings. Cox Released 3 CD's while on the air at WXDX-FM Pittsburgh, Alan Cox Sells Out, Alan Cox - Ribbed, and Alan Cox - Shadyside (a small part of Pittsburgh) Bathroom Wall Blues. He also performed at numerous comedy clubs within the area, and a portion of the proceeds from his CD's were donated to local charities.

* Debbie "Buck" Wilde - She was the nighttime DJ in 1996 when The Force and The X was on.
Other US imports to have aired on the channel include Beverly Hills, 90210, Melrose Place, Models, Inc., The X-Files (excluding seasons eight and nine), Walker, Texas Ranger, Twin Peaks, Criminal Minds, Charmed, Felicity, Alias

* Grimm - did weekends, then moved to weeknights 7p-12a when Debbie Wilde was let go. Moved to M-F 3p-7p slot when Alan Cox's show was moved to the mornings in 2004 and stayed in this time slot until he was let go in August 2008.
With the long running magazine show Día a Día hosted by veteran María Teresa Campos, the channel managed to lead every morning for a number of seasons. Campos later defected to rival Antena 3 with a copycat format in 2004, despite the programme being almost identical it was pulled in 2005 after one and a half seasons and numerous revamps. With the departure of Campos in 2004, Telecinco signed journalist Ana Rosa Quintana, who had fronted the afternoon hit magazine show Sabor a Ti on rival Antena 3 for years. The new programme, El Programa de Ana Rosa, became an instant hit and is currently the number one rated daytime show in Spain, followed closely by Antena 3's Espejo Publico.

* Mike Bocan - He was fired from the station on March 12, 2007 after an incident during a phone call to Bob Grove, host of the Pittsburgh Penguins postgame show. During the post-game from the Pittsburgh Penguins game broadcast, a caller was reported to have spoken an expletive on air (calling Bob Grove a "cunt" [sic]). Bocan claimed he didn't know he was supposed to be monitoring the calls, but he was subsequently fired from The X because of the incident. Bocan claims that the "call screener" was to monitor calls, that he was "to run the 10-second ads that say the station name and call letters", and claims he had no phone monitoring capabilities.
In July 2006, Telecinco, having been behind in the afternoon timeslot ratings, managed to beat rival Antena 3. This was primarily due to the end of the popular soap operas Pasión de gavilanes and El Cuerpo del Deseo. Telecinco also commissioned a local adaptation of huge hit soap opera Betty La Fea, which they titled Yo Soy Bea. It has been a huge hit having secured a 30% share of the audience on 24 August 2006. The introduction of the soap opera also boosted the afternoon line-up which includes magazine show A Tu Lado and gameshow Allá Tú (Deal or No Deal).

* Vinnie - was the X's music director and host of Edge of the X from 2001-2008; also did the 7p-12a shift weeknights during his last couple of years with the station.
Telecinco is also home to Big Brother, with the seventh edition due to air autumn 2006. The reality show has become a huge hit for the channel, and in view of this, the reality show feeds many of the channel's programmes such as the morning show El Programa de Ana Rosa, the tabloid show Aquí hay tomate, the afternoon show A Tu Lado, and weekly tabloid show Salsa Rosa (re-named Dolce Vita in August 2006). All the programmes experienced a substantial ratings boost thanks to the "Big Brother Effect", even though A tu Lado has since fallen back to low ratings.

* Tim Anglin - He was a part-time dj and The X's Promotions Director (1998-2002)
Telecinco is also renowned for its reality shows, having produced a number of popular ones in the last decade, Gran Hermano, Supervivientes, La Casa de Tu Vida, Hotel Glam, Gran Hermano VIP, Operación Triunfo, amongst others.

* Steve Stone (voice actor), a nationally known television and radio promo announcer. Steve Stone worked as the in-house creative director for WXDX-FM for three years, from 1996 to the end of 1999.
In June 2005, it started broadcasting the fourth season of reality/talent show Operación Triunfo. The previous three seasons were broadcast by TVE, who turned down a fourth.
He went on to work at WXRK-FM in New York City, and eventually launched his own voiceover and audio production company. http://www.stonevoiceovers.com [2].

* Megan Slater - did weekends and filled in on the weedays; left the X in early 2008 to join WRKZ-FM, a rock station in Columbus, Ohio where she is the current weekday mid-day host.
In view of their success in the field of reality TV, Telecinco planned to be screen simultaneously none other than three reality TV formats during autumn 2006. These are; Operacion Triunfo (Fifth season and second on Telecinco); Gran Hermano (Season 8) and the new Desafio Bajo Cero (celebrities skating on ice). As is the norm for all reality TV shows on the channel, the three have received support coverage in all the channel's magazine shows, as well as daily updates during the week. The over reliance on the genre cause the low acceptance of Desafio Bajo Cero, which was then dropped at the second programme and a substantial decline of Gran Hermano.

WXDX HD2
Telecinco has recently digitalised their production facilities. This will allow broadcasting of up to 16 different languages, 5.1 surround sound, interactive services, widescreen (16:9) programming, or even high-definition television in the future (it currently broadcasts in 4:3 and mono in DTT). In 2005 it started to air three new channels for the digital terrestrial television: Telecinco Estrellas, devoted to TV series and films; Cincoshop, a shopping channel; and Telecinco Sport.
On April 25, 2006, Clear Channel announced that WXDX's HD2 subchannel will carry a format focusing on Adult Album Alternative (Triple-A) music.
