"One-Winged Angel" (片翼の天使, Katayoku no Tenshi, lit. "an angel with wings on one side") is a Latin choral track, composed by Nobuo Uematsu, which is featured in the Square Co., Ltd. RPG Final Fantasy VII. It is played during the battle with Safer Sephiroth. The title "One-Winged Angel" references the single large wing that is part of Sephiroth's body in his final form.
The lyrics were taken from the same medieval poetry featured in Carl Orff's Carmina Burana. The lyrics can be found in the songs "Estuans interius", "O Fortuna" ("Sors immanis..."), "Veni, veni, venias" and "Ave formosissima" ("Gloriosa" and "Generosa"). Although a vocal track, "Approaching Premonition," had already been written as early as in 1994 and appeared in the album Final Fantasy VI: Special Tracks, "One-Winged Angel" marked the first time in a Final Fantasy video game that a musical track featuring digitized voices appeared (other than non-lyrical "choir aah" sounds).
Nobuo Uematsu has stated in an interview that the introduction sequence to "One-Winged Angel" is based on Jimi Hendrix's Purple Haze. This interview can be found on the second disc of Final Fantasy VII Advent Children in the behind the scenes feature entitled "The Distance".
Among Final Fantasy fans, it is one of the most well known pieces in a game to date.
Arrangements of "One-Winged Angel"
- An arrangement plays in the Playstation game Ehrgeiz during battles with Sephiroth.
- A heavily abridged arrangement of the song is featured in both the Final Fantasy related title Kingdom Hearts and its sequel, Kingdom Hearts II. Both focus slightly more on the lyrics than the unabridged version.
- An orchestrated version, arranged by Shirou Hamaguchi, was performed for the album Final Fantasy VII Reunion Tracks (with a sans chorus version included as a hidden track).
- A slightly different orchestrated version, also arranged by Shiro Hamaguchi, was performed at the 2002.02.20 concert, featuring a more prominent brass section.
- A piano version was performed for the Piano Collections: Final Fantasy VII album, arranged by Shirou Hamaguchi and performed by Seiji Honda.

"Advent: One-Winged Angel" has been performed live on two occasions. It was performed for the first time at the More Friends concert in Los Angeles, California by The Black Mages, The World Festival Symphony Orchestra conducted by Arnie Roth, and the CSUF University Singers. It was performed twice (once as an encore) at the VOICES concert in Japan as well, this time by the Prima Vista Philharmonic Orchestra also conducted by Arnie Roth and GYA along with The Black Mages. During the live performances, the new middle section of "Advent: One-Winged Angel" is played differently from the original song.
