Stephen Richard McGee (born September 27, 1985 in Round Rock, Texas) is the current starting quarterback for Texas A&M University.

High school career

McGee was a three-year starter at quarterback for Class 3A Burnet High School, where he led his team to a 36-5 win to loss combined record, including a 28-2 mark as a junior and senior. In both of those seasons, he led his team to the Texas 3A state finals. He did not throw a single interception during the entire 2003 regular season. He finished his high school career with 8,256 passing yards and a 3A state-record 101 passing touchdowns. McGee was a two-time all-state selection and was named the 3A Offensive Most Valuable Player after his senior year. He also played basketball and track and field, earning all-district honors in both. An excellent student, McGee was Burnet’s No. 1-ranked student-athlete and graduated 9th in his senior class of over 250.

2005 Season

He played his first game for Texas A&M on September 72005 against Southern Methodist University completing 3/3 for 56 yards. His next appearance was in Texas A&M's 40-21 loss to the Colorado Buffaloes on October 8, 2005 where he 9/15 for 112 yard with 2 carries for 15 yards. He was 3/3 for 32 yards with 3 carries for 13 yards in Texas A&M's win against Oklahoma State, but 0/2 with 1 carry for no yardage in Texas A&M's loss against Iowa State, 0/1 with 1 carry for 12 yards in the loss to Texas Tech, and 0/6 with 10 carries for 67 yards in the loss to Oklahoma.

McGee took over as quarterback for the final two games of the season due to an injury to starter Reggie McNeal. In those games, McGee rushed for 175 yards on 34 carries (5.1 per carry) and completed 9-of-29 passes for 83 yards, while leading the Aggies to 10 scoring opportunities on 19 drives. For the season, McGee completed 24-of-53 passes for 283 yards and two touchdowns and one interception in eight games. He rushed for 235 yards and two touchdowns on 43 carries (5.5 average). During the final game against Texas, McGee outrushed Texas QB Vince Young 108 yards to 19, but this was not enough to win against the Longhorns who outscored the Aggies 40-29.[1]

As of November 252006, McGee has passed for 2118 yards (11 TD, 2 INT) and rushed for 635 more with 4 rushing TDs. He has started all 12 games for Texas A&M and led the team to a 9-3 record. On November 242006, he led the Aggies to a 12-7 victory over the rival Texas Longhorns with a rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter. The A&M victory helped end the hopes of the 2006 UT team at winning back-to-back Big 12 Conference championship and at a third consecutive Bowl Championship Series berth.[2]

For the regular season, McGee completed 61.7% of his passes with a 7.4 yard average, while rushing for an average of 4.6 yards per play. He leads the NCAA in INT% with only 2 interceptions in 283 pass attempts. McGee is currently on track to set the Texas A&M record for highest single-season completion percentage. Kevin Murray currently holds the record for the 1986 season where he completed 60.7% of his passes. McGee led the Aggies to the Holiday Bowl, in which they lost to the Cal Bears 45-10.

2007 Season

In June of 2007, McGee appeard on the cover of Dave Campbell's Texas Football alongside Texas quarterback Colt McCoy and TCU defensive end Tommy Blake.

On June 26, 2007, Maxwell Football Club president Ron Jaworski announced that McGee had been named to the preseason watch list for the Maxwell Award. The initial list includes 64 players. The winner will be announced on December 6, 2007.[3]
