Minority Funk is a fushion punk band formed in 2005 in Lansing, Michigan. The bands mix of jazz and punk is what gives it their unordinary sound. With the bands original formation of just a guitar and drum featurette, it would soon grown into a full band known for their difficult guitar solos and their variety of music genres played throughout their albums. The band has yet to be signed, but with a loyal fanbase growing the band has high hopes for the future. They have also been a band that heavily promotes the online game "Ogame".

Style

The style of Minority Funk has a wide range of genres. From hardcore to jazz. A lot of their influence comes from Green Day, but others known to influence them are Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Weezer, Rancid, Operation Ivy, Mustard Plug, and other notable ska bands. On the single "Waste Away" lead singer/song writer Peter Koenigsknecht had this to say:

A lot of that song came from what I was feeling when me and my current girlfriend were going through a rough time. I wrote it thinking that if she knew how I felt about our situation at the time, she would be more understanding about my feelings. While trying to write down how I felt, I was listening to By The Way by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and saw how they brought their emotion into their music of funk and happy rock. From right then I knew that that’s what we need to be doing (as a band) to get our music out there. Waste Away was written in about a day. When I brought it to the guys they were quick to pick up on the music. We recorded the single after about only two weeks of practice and shot the music video in about three days.^[1]

Their music is widely known around the Lansing area and is expected to tour very soon. The bands style also got them an interview in noise magazine, a local newspaper that reports on underground music and growing bands. Also their music has been featured on 88.9 FM's WDBM Michigan State University's student radio station.

Charities

Minority Funk has been very active in Rock Against Cancer, American Cancer Society, and The Lance Armstrong Foundation. They have played thier music and participated in these charities to promote awareness about cancer. So far they have raised over $3,500 for the organizations all coming from their concert donations or their proceeds of their record sales. The band is also going to participate in this year’s 2007 Relay For Life.

Also the band is very active at their Catholic church. They have played religious music in front of their congregation and all say they are very devout Catholics.

-When the band was first talked about,it was just considered a joke between [[rhythm guitar]]ist Andrew Gallup and Drummer Kenny Gallihugh while attending [[Waverly High School]]. After much talk about the formation of the band, [[music management|manager]] David Molner and former [[lead singer]] Cameron Brown finally decided to give this project a shot. Within a short time the band started having regular practices and began playing shows with manager David temporarily standing in on bass.
-In the Beginning they had a hard time with the [[syncopation]] of the instruments. And according to Andrew, Cameron was yet to sing at one practice suggesting that maybe he was unable to sing. With the continuations of Camerons lack of seriousness, Andrew and Kenny started secretly looking for a new singer. -With the band back at two members, they had their manager David fill in on bass and temporary vocals. The band was declining; having fewer and fewer shows and practices. They were even close to calling it quits, until they found a new player who could not only play the guitar at a very skillful level, but could also sing with a wide range(something the band was looking for). Peter Koenigsknecht was going to be Minority Funk's lead singer and [[lead guitar]]ist, an unsual combination for one man in a band. After the addition of Peter the band was also able to finally come up with a name "PAK", a play on each others initials. Along with the addition of Peter they were also able to add notable funk bassist [[Adam Zenetti]], making the new name of the band PaAK. -All seemed to be doing well with the band until Adam unexpectedly left the band citing conflict with his other progressive [[psychedelic rock|psychedelic]] band [[Raisons of Acquired Taste]]. With the loss of Adam, the band was quick to pick up five string bassist Trevor Pollo who is still the current bassist for the band. The band has been currently playing shows with its current line up of Andrew, Kenny, Peter, and Trevor at local [[venues]] such as [[Mac's Bar]], and [[The Underground]]. Also Minority Funk has been known for their [[entrepreneurship]] as they have ventured into several [[side project]]s with their common [[trademark]] of having the word minority in all the bands names and usually making them all fit a [[rhyme scheme]].
