Friendly Fires are an English band from St Albans, Hertfordshire. They are currently signed to XL Recordings. The band are recording their as-yet untitled debut album, in their home studio in the Hertfordshire countryside.
History
Friendly Fires met at school in St Albans. Aged 14 they formed their first band, a hardcore/metal outfit[1] which existed until they began university. Upon returning they formed a new band inspired by dance music, "lush shoegaze melodies"[2], and classic pop songwriting[3]. The name Friendly Fires originates from the opening track by Section 25 off their debut LP "Always Now". The band consider German techno label Kompakt, Carl Craig and Prince to be their greatest influences.
In late 2007 they became the first unsigned band to appear on Channel 4's Transmission programme[4]. Their single Paris achieved 'Single of The Week' in the Guardian and NME newspapers, and also on Zane Lowe's Radio 1 show. They have toured the UK and Europe extensively, and their debut album is penciled for release in summer 2008 on XL Recordings.
