"Whine Up"
Song

"Whine Up" is a song by Dominican-American pop/R&B singer Kat DeLuna, released as her debut single from her album 9 Lives (released on August 7 2007).[2] The song features Elephant Man. It was believed that Ivy Queen was featured, but Kat herself provided the rap, rapping at a lower register. It was the official theme song for World Wrestling Entertainment's SummerSlam 2007 pay-per-view event.[3][4] The song earned DeLuna a Billboard Latin Music Award for Latin Dance Club Play Track Of The Year.[5] The title comes from the Jamaican English pronunciation of wind up maning to move one's hips on the dance floor.

Music video

DeLuna had asked fans that live in the New York City area to send in a video of them dancing on her song so they might win the opportunity to be featured in the music video for the song..[6] Double up Dance Group earned a spot to be on the video and is believed to be Kat Deluna's full time back up dancers.

The video premiered via her MySpace page. It starts with DeLuna singing an opera piece for her friend to be interrupted by the tune of her song. Then the whole music video begins with the different scenes of DeLuna dancing and the colorful backgrounds. The song is accompanied by her dance, The Whine Up.[7] The video premiered on TRL on July 26, 2007 and has been on the countdown for 31 days, peaking at #2.

Chart performance

The song was released to mainstream radio in the United States on May 15, 2007.[1] The song has debuted at number 24 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles, equal to number 124 on the Billboard Hot 100. Its current peak position is number 29. The song has had over 323,516 legal downloads in the U.S. as of August 29, 2007. This song was expected to be the song of the summer, but did not chart as well as expected.[citation needed] So far, "Whine Up" reached #9 in French charts.

"Whine Up" was used as the theme song for WWE's SummerSlam 2007 pay-per-view wrestling event.[8] DeLuna recorded a version of "Whine Up" for the 2007 New York Mets[9].

'Whine Up' has become super clip on the Dutch music channel TMF from the 10th till 16 March 2008.

Live performances

Kat performed "Whine Up", along with two back-up dancers, at the Miss Teen USA 2007 pageant which aired August 24, 2007 on NBC. Her performance accompanied the top 15 swimsuit competition.[10] She also performed this song at Shea Stadium.[11]
