Andrew Milner (born 1950, Leeds, United Kingdom) is Professor of Cultural Studies at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia. His primary academic interests include contemporary cultural theory, sociology of literature, the works of Fredric Jameson, Pierre Bourdieu, John Milton, Utopianism and Science Fiction. Milner’s works have been published around the world and translated into many languages including Portuguese, Korean, Chinese, and Farsi.


Education

  • Postgraduate: Ph.D., University of London (London School of Economics), 1977.

Thesis title: `John Milton and the English Revolution: A Study in the Sociology of Literature'.

  • Undergraduate: B.Sc. (Econ.), University of London (London School of Economics), 1972. Honours in Sociology.


Career

Andrew Milner began his academic career tutoring in sociology at the University of London in 1972. He was appointed lecturer in sociology at the University of Canberra in 1977 and then at the University of London in 1979. In 1980 he began his work at Monash University. During his time at Monash, Milner has worked as a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of London (1984), the University of Leeds (1992), and the University of Warwick (1996 & 2000), and as a Visiting Professor at the University of Liverpool (2007-2008). Milner became a Professor of Cultural Studies at Monash Univesity in 2000.
