Everything Breaks / The Show That Dare Not Speak Its Name is the 73rd episode and seventh season premiere of The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy. It first aired on October 6, 2006 on Cartoon Network.

Plots

Everything Breaks

Billy is breaking things in his house and his parents get angry at him. Billy then drives to Endsville Elementary School using the school bus, destroying obstacles, such as Mr. Skarr's garden. He lets Grim drive, although he doesn't know how to drive a vehicle. Grim crashes into the school and into Miss Butterbean's class, where students are sharing their science projects. Billy's science project is about Endsville's protection against natural disasters. When showing what could happen Endsville if a disaster happened, he crushes much of the school. Grim transports Mandy and Irwin to the Land of Pain and Suffering (renamed Level 9) where Lord Pain is ordered by Mandy to let Billy destroy things until he gets sick of it. Meanwhile, a psychologist tries to find out why Billy likes to demolish objects by hypnotizing him, going back all the way when Billy was a baby. The psycologist tells Billy that's too far, so Billy goes to a time when his parents ignored him. Billy says "I had doodies (feces) in my diapers and nobody would change me!" When his parents refused to change him, Billy caused chaos to get their attention and the psycologist believes that's the reason why Billy likes to ruin things. Billy angers him and Lord Pain gets Billy to come to Level 9. There, Lord Pain shows Billy that he can destroy anything in Level 9, so they do so. Even though Billy destroyed the city, he still has the urge to destruct objects, so Lord Pain and Billy go back to his house. They tell Grim and Mandy that destroying things is fun and then they start to ruin Billy's house.

The Show that Dare Not Speak Its Name

Billy is looking through Grim's trunk because he feels bored and discovers a magical Rubik's Cube. He plays with it and releases Pinface, a monster from the Netherworld with bowling pins on the sides of his face. After he is released, Pinface decides to call everyone from the Netherworld so they can take over the real world, but instead they have a house party. Outside on the sidewalk, Mandy asks Billy about the cube and Billy tells her that it's magical and that he released Pinface. They confront Pinface and Grim arrives. Grim tells them that he knew Pinface. Pinface and Grim used to live next door to each other when they were younger. They were best friends until Pinface's dad got a job somewhere else and had to move. Then one day Grim hung out with Pinface's sister at the mall. Grim dumped his girlfriend because of her bowling pins Quote " because she had bowling pins sticking out of her head mon, how was I suppose to make out with her with those stupid pins constantly sticking me in eye". Pinface traps Grim in the Netherworld and Billy's dad walks by. He finds the puzzle cube and solves it (by rearranging the stickers), taking everyone from Billy's house back to the Netherworld. Gladys sees that the house is damaged and becomes furious with Billy's dad. Billy's dad says he was dancing with monsters and it was all Pinface's fault. Then the bathtub falls onto him. Then Billy asks where Grim is, and he is seen with Pinface and his sister, ending the episode.

End credits

Pinface is in a convenience store line behind Irwin and Pud'n. Pinface yells at Irwin and Pud'n about his pins. Afterwards, Pinface leaves, and Irwin and Pud'n look intimidated.

Cultural references

• The title of the second short is a takeoff on the phrase "the love that dare not speak its name" from the poem "Two Loves" by Lord Alfred Douglas, published in 1892. It was mentioned at Oscar Wilde's gross indecency trial, and the phrase has been used as a euphemism for homosexuality.
• Pinface is a reference to the villain, Pinhead of the Hellraiser series.
• Pinface says, "Great googely moogely!". This is a reference to Maggie and the Ferocious Beast, which this line is the Ferocious Beast's catchphrase, which is itself a reference to Sanford and Son's Grady Wilson, who frequently used this catchphrase.
• Pinface sounds similar to Him from the Powerpuff Girls when he is inside the rubik's cube.
• In Everything Breaks, there was a reference to the Strategic Defense Initiative when Billy tried to simulate Endsville being confronted by a laser satellite.
• Near the beginning of The Show that Dare Not Speak Its Name, Billy can be seen dressed as Princess Peach from the Super Mario series.
• When Pinface is calling his minions, it is a parody of a Verizon commercial.
• Principal Goodvibes says, "Sweet mother-of-pearl!" This one of Mr. Krabs's catchphrases from SpongeBob SquarePants, though the phrase had been in use long before that.

Notes

• Both Everything Breaks and The Show That Dare Not Speak Its Name contains various references to other episodes, including The X-Treme Adventures of Brandon and Mallory. Its name is even a reference to The Love That Dare not Speak Its Name.
• Billy can be seen watching Evil Con Carne at the beginning of The Show that Dare Not Speak Its Name. After proclaiming he was bored, he destroyed the TV with what appeared to be a laser cannon.
• The Show that Dare Not Speak Its Name was formerly called Cubix Rube.
• The credits were different in this episode than other episodes. This because the credits are now split-screen instead of the credits covering the whole screen.

Goofs

• Harold is seen reading a newspaper called the Endville Gazette in a flashback of Billy's childhood. Endville is not the town's name, however it is Endsville.
• When the girl before Billy drags her science project away, the cup that is not attached to it also moves along with it.
