I don't think Chagaev is Chechen; there is a boxer named Ruslan Chagaev who is a Chechen, but he fights out of Hungary, not Universum gym in Germany. Chagaev is a Uzbekistani.

His dad's name - Shamil Chagaev - sounds pretty Chechen to me. Zamira could be of any Turkic nationality, or Chechen too. Facially Ruslan does look a bit Tatar, but could also be a mix. Name Ruslan too is way more popular in the Caucasus region, than with Tatars.

Chagaev and Religion

Was just curious if Chagaev is from Uzbekistan if he is Muslim. If this is true it would be significant to list this in the article as the world needs to know how great Muslims can be. --Teetotaler

Everybody knows how great Muslims, Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, Animists, Shintoists, Daoists, Confucianists, Agnostics and Atheists can be, yes.

His Mum is of Uzbek descent while his father is a Crimean Tartar who probably had to flee the area when Stalin deported his people from Crimea to Central Asia. So yes, he is Uzbek.

This means Ruslan Chagaev is ethnically 50% Tatar - 50% Uzbek. Did you know that Nicolai Valuev is Tatar? The title fight was The Battle Of the Tatars!

No, he is not Uzbek. He is 100% Tatar from Uzbekistan. He himself said in an interview that he is ethnically pure Tatar. Spring01 02:17, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
