NASCAR 09 is the twelfth installment of the EA Sports NASCAR series and is currently being developed by EA Tiburon for release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation 3. NASCAR 09 will be available in North America on 10 June 2008.[2] On 12 March, 2008, EA announced Jeff Gordon as the cover athlete for NASCAR 09.[3] Through the career mode, "Sprint for the Cup," Gordon will lead a mentoring program,[4] a new feature offered in NASCAR 09.[5]

In October 2007, Electronic Arts moved the PlayStation 2 game development to a new studio in North Carolina to be able to get better information with the NASCAR teams in an attempt to improve the game. The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game will still be made at the old studio.[2]
