from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Project CARS 2 ( Community Assisted Racing Simulator ) is a racing simulation developed by Slightly Mad Studios and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment . It has been available for Microsoft Windows , PlayStation 4 and Xbox One since September 22, 2017 . Like its predecessor, Project CARS , the game supports virtual reality headsets .

scope

Project CARS 2 has 140 different routes in 60 locations and offers 189 cars. You can choose from supercars, hypercars, vintage, open wheel, GT, LMP, rallycross and karts from 35 manufacturers such as Porsche , Ferrari , Lamborghini , Jaguar Cars , Acura and Audi .

development

Developer Slightly Mad Studios confirmed in April 2015 that Project CARS 2 was in development. As with the first part, the development was partly funded by a crowdfunding campaign that began in June 2015. After the work on the Game Of The Year Edition of its predecessor was completed, the entire team was busy developing the game from May 2016. In June 2017, the final release date was announced on September 22, 2017.

According to the review aggregator Metacritic , the game received mostly positive ratings.

The German trade magazine GameStar called the game a great overall package for racing fans in general. The rudimentary campaign with poor staging was criticized.

"Successful racing simulation with only a few, small weaknesses"

- Wolfgang Fischer : PC Games

PC Games Hardware called the game the “best VR experience of the year” in 2017 and praised the dynamic weather effects.

In the conclusion of the online magazine 4Players , the Xbox One version received a clear devaluation due to technical deficiencies, which were particularly noticeable through drops in the frame rate . For VR support, there was also a percentage point upgrade compared to playing on PC without VR. The game gains significantly in immersion in VR, even if the menu design is not optimal.
