Lunada is the tenth studio album by Mexican pop singer Thalía. It was released through EMI Music on June 24, 2008 in North America. International releases will follow in July in Germany, Greece, Japan, and Spain, among others. Lunada is Thalía's first album since the release of El Sexto Sentido in 2005 and since the birth of her daughter Sabrina. The new record, Lunada, produced by Emilio Estefan, includes 11 summer songs with some "cover" versions amongst them. This album is of the tropical rhythms, reggae, ballads and includes also a song written by Thalía, "Bendita" dedicated to her baby daughter Sabrina Sakaë. We can also find the Spanish language cover version of Italian hit "Sará perché ti amo" (in Spanish, Será Porque Te Amo), performed originally by famous group Ricchi e Poveri. The album managed to reach the Top 10 on the U.S. Billboard Top Latin Albums ranking on its debut week and after the third week the album flop out from the Top Latin Albums making this album a big failure and deception from the Label. Despite weak initial sales, Lunada is starting to climb back the charts as Ten Paciencia is slowly increasing in airplay thoughout latin america and climbing the charts back as well with the aid of radio airplay, digital sales and video tv exposure.

Entertainment shows from all over Latin America were allowed to visit the video shoot for Thalia's first single "Ten Paciencia", including E! (Latin America) and Univision.

Thalia promoted the album by performing at Premios Juventud where she received the made up for the show only: Diva Award. Thalia also promoted the album at the Cristina show which garnered the highest audience viewing ratings across North and Latin America on that time slot. Thalia is also preparing a big tour around the world (Latin America, United States and Europe).

The second single will be "Será Porque Te Amo" and will be released only in Latin America.

History

The singer described her new production as the most sincere of her music career. Lunada was made to become the soundtrack of the summer. According to Thalia, "Sangre Caliente" is the song that best describes the whole spirit of the album. Thalia told about her new album: "This disc came along when I was very pregnant with my daughter, I was almost eight months along. I had had it, and the only thing I could think about were bikinis, suntan lotion, beer and the beach. So I began to think to myself, 'Hey! What was that song I liked last summer in Argentina? 'Sangre Caliente' ("Hot blood")! And when I went with my friends to (the Mexican beach resort of) Ixtapa, which one was it? That's right! The one by Juan Gabriel!' ... That's how 'Lunada' was born."

Controversy

The cover art to Lunada was compared to that of Australian band Cut Copy's album Bright Like Neon Love. Both show strong similarities, including the same color to the face, similar glasses and lipstick color and overall appearance. To this, Thalia responded that this was "what had been presented to [her] by her creative group and that she hoped her work would inspire others in the future as well."
