The Cámara Argentina de Productores de Fonogramas y Videogramas , CAPIF for short , is a collecting society from Buenos Aires , which represents the rights of use from the copyright of those composers , lyricists and publishers of musical works in Argentina who are members of CAPIF. CAPIF is a member of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) and is a non-profit organization (NPO) that is integrated into multinational and national labels.
CAPIF was founded on June 25, 1958 and is now headed by Guillermo Castellani. On January 24, 2012, the website of the CAPIF was hacked by Anonymous as part of the protest against SOPA and PIPA and put out of action for several hours.
Limits to the award of phonograms
The CAPIF first awarded gold or platinum status in January 1980 for a particularly high number of records sold. Between 1980 and 2000, the following sales figures were necessary to be awarded gold or platinum status:
